Self Help Groups -
ANKURI has organized Self Help Groups of about 140 local rural women. These are groups of about 10 women each. Every group has a Secretary, President and Vice –President. Each group has a small micro fund which they generate and control themselves. They give loans to villagers and amongst themselves.
Income Generation
ANKURI has started a knitting program as a means of developing income and empowering women in managerial skills. The women are quickly expanding their ability to execute intricate patterns, larger orders and haute couture while keeping to a rigorous time schedule and quality control.
Health
ANKURI has held three basic health camps in the villages. The camp, which included a mobile health unit, was open to all members of the seven villages where ANKURI worked at that time. People were examined for dental, eye, orthopedics, gynecology, bones and heart ailments. A team of doctors was organized and free medicines were distributed.
Literacy
ANKURI has adopted the local primary school in village Galjwari. Besides helping to build the school kitchen ANKURI has contributed
- School furniture
- Uniforms
- Lunch boxes
- Books
- School supplies
- Prizes for outstanding students
Books have been given by ANKURI donor, Priscilla Diamond, to establish a library in the village.
