| ANKURI is located in the district of Dehradun, capital of Uttrakhand. The Agency for Non Konventional Urban Rural Initiatives (ANKURI) is situated in villages surrounding Dehradun. Five and a half hours north east of New Delhi, Dehradun nestles in the foot hills of the Himalayas. Due to the underlying social situations unique to the hill region of Uttrakhand, the women have taken the lead in the economic life of the area. Traditionally most able-bodied men migrate to the plains in search of employment, or join the army, leaving the agrarian life of the region primarily under the responsibility of women |
